U.S. Tech Industry Adds 118,500 Jobs
in First Half of 2007

Highlights of What's Inside...
  • The U.S. high-tech industry employed 5.9 million people as of June 2007, the highest level since 2002.
  • The tech industry added nearly 118,500 jobs in the first half of 2007, slightly behind pace of the 143,000 jobs added in the same period in 2006.
  • Nonetheless, January to June 2007 tech job growth lagged that of the U.S. private sector, 2.0 percent compared to 3.3 percent.
  • High-tech manufacturing added jobs for the second consecutive year, 1,800 in the last six months.
  • The high-tech services sectors added 116,600 U.S. jobs in the last six months, a rise of 2.6 percent.
  • Within the high-tech services sectors employment growth was led by engineering and tech services (+52,600), followed by software services, (+51,100), followed by communications services (+12,900).
