Overview of Broadband Deployment is AeA's newest study. The report provides
broadband subscription data at the national and state level since 1999.

Broadband Subscriptions Up 488 Percent Since December 1999
Broadband subscriptions totaled 16.2 million in June 2002, up 488 percent from 2.8
million in December 1999
13.4 million broadband subscribers added between December 1999 and June 2002
Broadband growth slowed to 27 percent between December 2001 and June 2002, the slowest
rate since December 1999
86 percent of broadband subscribers are residential and small businesses
Broadband is nearly universally available in urban population centers, while only 50
percent of the nations rural areas have a broadband provider serving customers
Cable is the dominant technology at 65 percent of the market, followed by DSL at 32
percent, and other wireline at 7.3 percent
Massachusetts, New Jersey, California Lead in Broadband
Subscribers Per Household
California, New York, Florida, Texas, and New Jersey top states by broadband subscribers
in June 2002
Massachusetts, New Jersey, California, the District of Columbia, and Alaska lead in
broadband subscribers on a per household basis
California, New York, Texas, Florida and Ohio top states by broadband subscriber growth
between December 2001 and June 2002
