Lovegrove is Managing Director of our European office in Brussels. James
is part of a highly professional team: Rob Mulligan (Sr Vice President,
AeA), Abigail Cottrell (formerly DTI) our European Affairs Manager and
Petra Rahoens (formerly AmCham) our Administrative Assistant. Together we
support AeA Europe Members and our Executive Committee, which drives the
Association’s policy and strategic direction. This year’s Executive
Committee is chaired by Nortel Networks (Thomas Reynaert) and Vice-Chaired
by HP (Jan-Willem Scheijgrond ).
James is a British national and a convinced European. He has spent most of
his academic and professional life involved in European affairs.
James studied European Studies (politics/administrative law), European Law
and French at the University of Kent (UK) and the Institut d’Etudes
Politiques (Science Po, France). He then worked at a Brussels
based think-tank (European Policy Centre) on a publication; "Making Sense
of the Amsterdam Treaty". Once graduated, James worked at
Freshfields at both their EU affairs departments in Brussels and Berlin
and saw the company grow through two mergers. During his time at
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, James was awarded a traineeship at DG
Competition (European Commission).
James has played an important role in tripling the Membership of the
Brussels council by establishing it as the key platform for the US
high-tech sector. Most recently, AeA Europe launched a unique report
into the role of the High-Tech sector to deliver solutions for both
climate change and economic growth. The interest from EU decision
makers has been outstanding and is a clear reflection of the strong
stakeholder credentials of AeA Europe.
James was educated at a Roman Catholic boarding school in Yorkshire (UK),
Ampleforth College. Having spent much of his childhood in Nigeria
and the Middle East he has travelled widely and visited North America,
