The AeA China work group meets in Washington, DC, on an as-needed basis and coordinates closely with the U.S. Information Technology Office (USITO), AeA's shared office in Beijing. Most meetings have conference call accessibility for Work Group members outside of the Washington, DC area. Member company representatives registered for this committee receive up-to-date information on economic and trade developments in China.

In coordination with USITO, the China Work Group monitors China's implementation of its commitments to the World Trade Organization. In conjunction with USITO, the Work Group also prepares industry comments for submission to the Government of China prior to development of new laws and regulation that impact the high-tech sector.

The Work Group works with U.S. Government officials to assist their understanding of developments in China that impact the high-tech sector. Annually, AeA leads a delegation of AeA member-company executives to China.

The Work Group holds occasional programs at AeA on political and economic developments in China. This would include inviting visiting Chinese officials to address the group, and meeting regularly with the Chinese Embassy Commercial Minister in Washington, DC.

China Initiative

The AeA China Initiative: March 2006
Growing concern over potential policy missteps by the governments in China and the U.S. have prompted AeA to undertake a China Initiative aimed at increasing awareness on both sides of the importance of the trading relationship.  Through a series of papers, meetings, and programs, the AeA China Initiative will work to educate policy makers in China and the U.S. on the benefits of maintaining an open bilateral trade environment and the risks of policy measures that could undermine trade.
