The inaugural two-day CIRCA 07 conference
co-hosted by AeA and the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering was a
tremendous success with nearly 175 attendees and 30 speakers.
CIRCA 07 explored the value of convergence with
industry leaders, the tools needed to enable convergence and the
opportunities that proactive computing is creating in convergence. The
conference then broke out into technology partnership pathways in
transportation and bio-health. Many new exciting partnerships have been
formed as a result of the conference and we anticipate several announcements
in the coming months.
Highlights of the event included keynote
presentations by Dr. Tim Weber, R&D Director of Advanced Materials and
Process Lab, Hewlett Packard and Dr. Bernard Meyerson, Chief Technology
Officer, IBM.
By all accounts CIRCA 07 was a tremendous
success that can largely be attributed to the tremendous financial support
of our sponsors and high caliber speaker presentations.
CIRCA 07 Sponsors included: Platinum-
National Grid, New York State Office of Science & Technology; Gold- HP,
Matheson Tri-Gas; Silver- Center for Economic Growth; Bronze- UHC, NYSERDA,
M+W Zander, Arsenal Business & Technology Partnership; Table Sponsors:
Vistec Lithography, Oracle.
Special thanks to all of our speakers including
representatives of the following companies: Needham Company, Philips,
IBM, HP, SRC, Freescale, NXP Semiconductor, Infineon, M+W Zander, DoD,
Department of the Army, Molecular Imprint, Silicon Genesis, AIXTRON, DALSA
Semiconductor, Accenture, AMD, Oracle, SAIC, MTA, CH2MHill, Northrop
Grumman, Raytheon, WelchAllyn, Northeast Health, GE, and ANALOGIC.
Planning for CIRCA 08 has already begun and we
look forward to putting together another highly successful event for the AeA
membership.

Dr. Timothy L. Weber, Director of Advanced Materials and Processes Lab, Technology Development Operation, Hewlett Packard.
Dr. Weber's lab develops platforms for printing technologies, MEMS-based technologies, applied molecular systems and printed electronics. His organization was responsible for the development of the MEMS-based advanced printhead technology recently introduced across HP's inkjet product lineup. He holds fifty issued U.S. Patents.
Dr. Bernard S. Meyerson, IBM Fellow, VP
Strategic Alliances & CTO, IBM Systems
and Technology Group.
Dr. Meyerson has led several development organizations within IBM, including its Semiconductor Research and Development Center (SRDC). In addition, Dr. Meyerson headed the world's largest semiconductor development consortium, including IBM, Sony, Toshiba, AMD, Samsung, Chartered Semiconductor and Infineon.
Dr. Satyen Mukherjee, Chief Scientist, Senior Director Research Strategy North America, Philips Research Laboratories. At Philips, Dr. Mukherjee identifies and drives cross-program initiatives in research, having conducted his own research in a number of IC technologies, circuits and systems areas for applications in consumer electronics, lighting, communications and health care. He is author of the book
Amlware: Hardware Technology Drivers of Ambient Intelligence.
