Washington, DC (July 30, 2008) – AeA
expresses great disappointment in the World Trade Organization’s failure to come
to a resolution on key agricultural and NAMA (non-agricultural market access)
issues at the Doha Round this week. AeA will continue to support the U.S.
government’s insistence on an agreement that results in meaningful market access
with the inclusion of electronic sectorals.
“The outcome of the Doha negotiations is disappointing.” said Christopher
Hansen, President and CEO, AeA. “International trade is critically important to
the high-tech industry, and AeA member companies strongly support a successful
conclusion to the Doha negotiations.
“Liberalized trade among member nations would have created greater market access
in developing countries and greater opportunities for U.S. companies, especially
in the high-tech industry, to create business partnerships with competitors
abroad.
“AeA commends Ambassador Schwab and her team for supporting market access goals
for the high-tech industry. We are hopeful that in the near future the talks
will resume and there will be progress toward an ambitious result.
“AeA hopes that all WTO members will consider the benefits they receive in a
healthy global marketplace that is devoid of deleterious trade distortions.”
