AeA Commends the President for Addressing the Issue
of Competitiveness in the 2008 Budget
Budget focuses on need for increased funding for basic research

Washington, DC (February 5, 2007) - AeA, the nation’s largest high tech trade association representing all segments of the high-tech industry, praises President George W. Bush for increasing funding for U.S. competitiveness and innovation in the 2008 budget. The following statements can be attributed to William T. Archey, President and CEO, AeA.

“We applaud the President for his continued support of the American Competitiveness Initiative and the most recent budget, which reiterates his commitment to US competitiveness. Competitiveness is the number one public policy issue for high-tech companies across the country.

“We believe that the 7.1 percent increase to $11.4 billion for government research is a great investment for American competitiveness in the global market, and is one that will prove to be beneficial for the American economy.

“We are heartened to see competitiveness is a top issue for Speaker Pelosi and Senate Democrats, and we are hopeful that the President and Congress can work together to pass significant legislation this year.”
