Thanks to all of our volunteers
As AeA wraps up its fiscal year at the end of September, we want to offer our deepest thanks to all of the volunteers from our member companies who made the past year a great success. We couldn’t succeed without our volunteers for the executive committee, our networking committees, our government affairs committee, and our event sponsors.
It’s the hard work and dedication of all of you that consistently make the Oregon Council of AeA the most productive and successful councils in the country. Thanks again!
AeA members weigh in on immigration
AeA members across the country are contacting their members of Congress to stress the importance of changes to the nation’s high-skilled immigration policies. Opening up the workplace to skilled workers from around the globe, as well as improving our education here at home, are key to addressing the industry’s workforce needs. Specifically, AeA is pushing for expansion of the skilled worker H-1B visa program and a broadening of the so-called green card process.
Here in Oregon, a number of local CEOs have written to their Congressional representatives, and Oregon Council chair,
Bob DeKoning, has met with staff for Rep. Darlene Hooley.
It’s not too late to get involved. Get more information
or contact Jim Craven in the Oregon Council office at
503-624-6050.
Take the AeA Oregon High Tech Industry Quiz
Where does Oregon rank among high-tech states? What high-tech sector in Oregon employs the most workers? What proportion of state exports come from high tech?
These and other puzzlers about the Oregon technology industry and the state’s economy are found in the new
AeA Oregon High Tech Industry
Quiz. The quiz contains 20 questions about the industry and the state’s economy and tax structure. AeA will use this quiz throughout the coming year to educate policymakers about the industry and its contributions to Oregon.
Brave enough to try? Go to the link below, download the quiz, give it your best try, and email your answers to
Jim Craven in the AeA council office. He’ll send you back the official answer sheet that provides the correct answers and explains why these facts are important. Craven says that research is allowed, and participants can even “phone a friend” for answers.
Chairman Bob DeKoning featured in the Oregonian
Our AeA Oregon Council chair, Bob DeKoning of Routeware, published a letter to the editor in the Oregonian last month highlighting Congressional passage of the 21st Century Competitiveness Act. The legislation boosts federal scientific research, includes programs to attract more students into engineering and science careers, and enhances teaching skills in math and science. AeA worked closely with Congress to pass this important act.
